No trace of PFAS after MyWater treatment!

On September 30, we commissioned the Eurofins laboratory to take two samples for a “before/after MyWater” analysis from one of our members living in Chièvres.
Chièvres is infamous for being one of the world's top PFAS pollution hotspots..

As a reminder, European Directive 2020/2184 on the quality of water intended for human consumption requires that, from 2026 onwards, a maximum value of 100 nanograms per liter be respected for the sum of measured concentrations of 20 PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkylated substances) specifically identified in the directive.

In a recent interview, the new Minister, Yves Coppieters, undertook to apply this European directive as quickly as possible, without waiting until 2026.

I'd like to share with you the 2 reports I received today. The last line of the report carried out, before MyWater, shows that there are 51 nanograms/l of PFAS for the sum of the concentrations of the 20 PFAS.
This is well below the legal threshold of the European directive applicable in 2026, which limits the concentration of PFAS in tap water to 100 nanograms/l.

On the other hand, alongside the “legal” limit, some countries, such as Denmark and the USA, have defined a stricter “health” standard limited to 4 nanograms/l for the 4 most toxic PFAS: PFOA, PFNA, PFHxS, PFOS.

In the penultimate line of the analysis, we see that the current quantified level is 16 nanograms, which means that this pre-MyWater water would be unfit for consumption in these two countries!

So there's still progress to be made in water treatment. The good news is that no measurable traces of PFAS remain after MyWater's treatment.
In any case, it's in such infinitesimal quantities that the laboratory finds no trace of it. 100% of PFAS have disappeared!
